Occupational First Aid Level 3

Content:
The procedures will follow the guidelines described in the Occupational First Aid Reference and Training Manual.
The Participant will be able to demonstrate
Basic Life Support & (CPR A)
Patient assessment
Critical airway & respiratory, interventions with C-Spine management, including insertion of oral airways, use of oxygen therapy equipment and bag valve mask
Circulatory interventions and management
Small wound, soft tissue, and fracture management
Suction
Objectives:
Demonstrate the Priority Action Approach.
Identify and manage critical interventions of the airway with C-spine control for conscious patients and patients with a decreased level of consciousness.
Identify respiratory emergencies and manage critical interventions.
Prepare patients for rapid transport in supine and lateral positions.
Conduct the secondary survey component of the Priority Action Approach for patients in the Rapid transport category and patients in the first aid room.
Participants will asses, manage, and identify the need for medical aid referral for soft tissue injuries.
Identify and manage head, brain, and spinal injuries.
Identify and manage abdominal injuries, upper limb fractures and dislocation.
Describe how to identify and manage diabetic conditions and seizures.
Outline:
The WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Level Three course is designed for remote worksites or employers with large workforces more than 20 minutes from medical aid. .

Certification:

Initial certification requires full participation and course attendance plus passing both a written and practical exam. Upon successful completion the participant will receive certification that is valid for three years
Length:
Occupational First Aid Level 3 is a 70 hour program
Prerequisites:
To qualify for Level 3 training and subsequent certification, a person must be at least 16 years old and have the physical ability to perform first aid skills required to complete the learning tasks. No previous first aid training is required.
